13 – 19 June
£1085 full board
St Kilda is the westernmost archipelago of the Outer Hebrides and contains the islands Hirta, Soy, Dùn and Boreray. An expedition to these islands is a must for every experienced sea kayaker and a once in a lifetime experience.
South Skye Sea Kayak and Sea Kayak Skye are offering this unique expedition in cooperation to give you the best possible experience. Based on the “mothership” MV Cuma, we are hoping to spend as many days as possible exploring the sea cliffs of Hirta, Soy and Boraray, which are the highest in Britain. Of course there is always a chance that the weather won’t let us go to St Kilda, but we have plenty of other plans and the Outer Hebrides offer numerous other stunning coastlines and islands that we can exlore. Our skipper Murdo MacDonald and his team will look after us and provide us with a home for the duration and hearty meals to keep us energised for our adventures.
Accommodation on board the Cuma consists of twin berth cabins with bedding and towels provided. All meals are included.
There are ten places available on each trip addition to the two coaches. The trips will be led by Kevin Williams and Kate Duffus, who are both highly qualified and experienced coaches and guides.
The intention will be to get out to St Kilda and paddle as much of the coastline as the weather allows. In addition there will also be opportunities to paddle in other places along the Hebridean coastline. Murdo has an encyclopaedic knowledge of these waters and we will use his vast experience to maximise our paddling adventures. Again, weather permitting, there will be the chance to explore St Kilda on foot. It is important that you understand that whilst every effort will be made to exploit weather windows and reach St Kilda, it may not always be possible. Murdo is the most experienced of all the skippers taking groups to St Kilda so if anyone can get us there, he can.
In 2019 the team paddled at St Kilda, Taransay, Monarch Isles and Loch Rog. There is no set itinerary, everything depends on the weather.
Your kayaking experience level should be such that you are able to enjoy the paddling in wind of force 4-5 and confident in swell. Equipment can be hired from South Skye Sea Kayak on request.
